Wells City Reserves Win Senior Cup
The Melhuish and Saunders Ltd Mens Senior Cup Final played out yesterday evening at Frome Town FC.
A good sized crowd joined us, Wells City Reserves and Broad Plain House FC side for what developed into a very exciting cup final.
Wells City Reserves started strongly and dominated the first half taking a 2 goal lead into the break. Broad Plain rarely got outside their half during the first 45, and oly had a couple of half chances to speak of.
After the break, Broad Plain was the better side leaving Wells to operate on the counterattach where possible. The chance count went up for Broad Plain throughout the half but they were unable to make any count. This was partly down to some good defending and goalkeeping from Wells and partly due to some rushed finishing.
Wells looked dangerous on the counter and had chances themselves, but having survived the phases of attack from Broad Plain they extended their lead and sealed the win in additional time at the end of the 90.
Congratulations to Wells City Reserves and well done to Broad Plain for a great final. Also, a thank you to all of the spectators and to Frome for hosting.
We have our Youth finals this Sunday, followed by a busy week of finals next week including the Men's Premier, Junior and Intermediate Cups.
