Somerset FA Hosts Thrilling Pokémon Primary School Finals

Last week, Somerset schools, in partnership with Somerset FA, proudly held the Pokémon Primary School finals at Strode College, showcasing an incredible display of talent and sportsmanship. Over three exciting days, 36 school teams competed vigorously for the chance to qualify for the regional finals and represent Somerset.

Large Schools Contest – Tuesday

The first day of competition featured the large schools, where teams went head-to-head in a fiercely contested group stage. This intensity carried over into the semi-finals and culminated in a thrilling final. After a series of nail-biting matches, it was St Benedict’s that emerged victorious, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork.

Small Schools Finals – Wednesday

The excitement continued on Wednesday with the small schools finals. Once again, the group stages kept everyone on the edge of their seats, coming down to the very last game. The momentum from the group stage flowed into the semi-finals, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown in the final that ultimately ended in a penalty shootout. In this high-pressure moment, it was St Joseph’s who showcased their composure, claiming victory and earning a well-deserved spot in the next round.

Girls Competition – Thursday

The final day of the tournament celebrated the girls’ competition, mirroring the intensity of the previous days. With both semi-finals and the final being closely fought battles, the skill and determination on display were exceptional. Ultimately, it was Pensford who triumphed, leaving the tournament with the championship title.

Despite the chilly weather, the spirit exhibited by all participants was commendable. The dedication and passion shown by the players, coaches, and supporters made the event a resounding success. Congratulations to our three winners: St Benedict’s, St Joseph’s, and Pensford. 

We wish them the very best as they prepare for the next round of the competition.
