Somerset FA Kicks Off First Womens Walking Football League

Somerset FA celebrated a landmark moment on Sunday, 12th January 2025, with the launch of its first-ever Women’s Walking Football League.

The inaugural fixtures took place at Strode College Sports Centre, marking a significant milestone in promoting inclusivity and accessibility within football.

This exciting development follows a successful pilot season of friendly festivals across Somerset. The overwhelming interest from teams and clubs led to the formation of a league committee, who worked diligently to establish this competitive platform for women’s walking football. It’s a fantastic achievement to see the league officially underway, showcasing the growth and enthusiasm for the game.

The league will feature scheduled fixtures held across four events from January to June 2025. Fans can follow the action and track team progress throughout the season via the league’s presence on Full-Time.

Supporting New Players and Teams

In addition to the league, Somerset FA will continue hosting friendly development festivals. The first festival of the season is set for Sunday, 2nd February 2025, at Strode College. These festivals, which have garnered interest from up to 12 teams, provide an invaluable opportunity for newer players and emerging teams to gain experience, learn the game, and forge social connections in a supportive environment.
